Ok, everyone has heard the term "Spam" and it has become quite a controversial subject on the web. There are a lot of people out there who will go on a crusade to shut you down and give you a bad name because you sent them one simple email message. These same people simply throw away the junk mail that comes in their home mailboxes and yet they can't give the same courtesy when they receive an email that is unsolicited by hitting the delete key! Why? If you have been using your email around the web for a while, you can understand why people hate it so much...

I personally receive 100's of emails each week for things like "viagra", "lose 50 pounds in 1 month", "$50,000 in 90 days", "porno", kind of ads. And it takes away from my valuable time, so of course, I am not happy with it. But I simply hi-light all of the unwanted mail and hit the delete key....Now when I receive an ad for a product that I just might be interested in, an email from a company who legitimately got my email from an opt-in list or based on a product I have purchased in the past, those are ok. In fact, I have purchased products from those kinds of emails. 

So here is the key, if you want to do bulk emailing to market your product, make sure you get a targeted opt-in email list. Be careful and ask questions when purchasing a list. Targeted lists are easy to find. There are software programs available that search the web for emails from web pages that have specific keywords. These are the kinds you want to avoid, they might be targeted, but they are NOT opt-in! You don't want your unsolicited email to end up on the desktop of an anti-spammer who will go on a crusade against you....Make sure the list is opt-in. 

Why should you use bulk email if it is so controversial? Well, if you are like most of us who are struggling to find an advertising budget, it is the least costly way to get the word out about your company or product. Period.
